Actually, Whitmire's opened in the early 1930s. It was first located on the riverside of St. Charles and Felicity (1768 St. Charles) and moved to the opposite corner in the 1970's. The business was started by James W. Whitmire and serviced vehicles and fleets until closing in the late 1980s.Mr. Caston ran the place and became the owner when Mr. Whitmire retired. What made this place so different from others was the personal service- they knew your name and maintained your car like it was theirs. We really miss the place and wish it would either return or that someone would adopt their philosophy of customer service.

Thw food is really good there, amd it worths each single cent you pay for it. Besides, if you go there on your birthday, you can ask for a free steak meal, wich I recomend.

My friends could stay there for the entire trip. I enjoy it, but can only drag them out after hours and hours. We've sat through many shift changes of singers. Sure its touristy, but locals enjoy it too.

It looks a lot like a ruined fort Pike (just down the road. I've always been intrigued by it. The second of three forts guarding New Orleans.
