We used to go mud riding out there after school. I had an old beat up Mercedes Benz that I would tear through the muddy field with...good times.

Years ago there was a concrete structure there that was in the shape of a butterfly that extended over the river. This structure which also included a concrete deck had a classic 50's style and housed a concession stand and I think a restroom. Its location was approximately near the current Audubon Zoo paddle boat landing. Sometime in the late 80's or early 90's a runaway barge ran into it and collapsed and destroyed the building but the name remains.

The graves are elevated because during heavy rain sometimes the bodies in the ground come out and people can see the bones so they built them grave above ground to protect the people

"i'll even label the locations of the rooms for you (you can erase it once you understand." forget that...just look at the surrounding buildings in the 2004 visit pictures.

It doesn't say so, but I think I was the original poster of that caption. Anyway, my business is going into its slow season so now I may have time to post more photos of my visits around the world. This is the famous W Hotel (chain) in New Orleans. There are two W's, one on Poydras Street, a busy business corridor not far from the French Quarter and one actually IN the Quarter (as it's affectionaltely called by the locals) on Chartres (pronounced Char-terrs) Street. Both are fabulous in every way and my personal favorite hotel chain worldwide. This one on Poydras has great amenities, including Whiskey Blue, a cool bar/lounge chain that the W works with. I go in sometimes after work, sit, have a cool 'something' and just put my head back and listen to the music. Other time, later in the evening, you might even find someone interesting to talk with... GREAT staff... no, really... even by New Orleans standards (which is saying a lot!), great furninshings, great valet service, the whole bit. Really should be a five-star, but the Windsor Court (Oh, My!) is next door and I'm sure they wouldn't be too happy if a commoner hotel like the W stole any of their 'charm' (see my entry on the Windsor).

I forgot to mention that many different factions have been trying for some time to turn this building into a hotel/resort, as Harrah's Casino recently won approval to renovate some local buildings (which were under historical scrutiny) into a hotel and I must say they did a wonderful job (see Harrah's Hotel entry). Nonetheless, the developers have never quite been able to turn this one around. Perhaps it will happen in the near future as New Orleans appears to be coming back despite the federal government's neglect of them (financially). Seems America wants and NEEDS an adult playground and they are not willing to let New Orleans go just yet!

No idea who enetered the heading, but I took the photo. This is what is now known as the WTC, or World Trade Center, fitting for a city in the United (I wonder if that title is actual accurate since Hurricane Katrina) States that features one of the largest ports in the country and ranks among the largest in the world. This building was originally called the International Trade Mart and still has a round top that features a lounge that revolves, giving a great view of the entire region. The loung has been many, many different clubs over the years and I'm sure will eventually, once again, settle down to be a cool place regardless of what it's currently called, to meet friends and watch the city and the river pass by. WGNO TV was located in this building and still uses the roof for their broadcast antennae. Keep in mind that the top of the building rotates continuously, so mounting a broadcast antennae on top required special engineering.

Truly a great pub. Where else can you listen to some great tunes or watch the saints , do your laundry, meet up with friends, have a drink, play pool, eat, and even play a little cards on the state's gaming terminals. This is not some fancy sports bar or tourist trap. You will meet the locals here.

I knew someone who almost bought this house. Apparently, the guy who built this made it for his girlfriend, but after he built it, she dumped him. Feel bad for that guy...
